Members will be saddened to  hear of the death on Friday 21 September of an ex-KRC member, Captain James Townley, who was killed in an incident whilst serving in Afghanistan at the age of only 29.

James was a KRC member from 2005-2006 after graduating from Oxford University and before attending officer training at RMA Sandhurst.

Even though James was at KRC for a short time, he quickly became an integral and well liked member of the squad. James impressed with his skill and commitment which resulted in him being selected for the 1st VIII that won the S2 pennant at Marlow Regatta in 2006 (pictured below, front row, 2nd from left holding the plaque) and then went on to race in the same VIII in the Thames Cup at Henley Royal Regatta that year.
