About the Mens Senior Squad at KRC

The senior men’s programme at Kingston RC has now completed 4 seasons under the guidance of coach Andy Medcalf. In that time there has been a steady improvement in the quality of the rowing and results. In each year we have seen improving performances and we had a set of solid results over the 2016-17 season. This past season we won the inaugural club 4- at the National Championships and our two Henley crews, in the Britannia and Thames Cup, were without question in the top few crews in each event. The 4+ were top 2 or 3 after losing to the eventual winners by just 1/2L. Over these four years everything about the squad has stepped on. We are now looking for extra dedicated and ambitious rowers to join us in our quest to win at Henley in 2018.  For more information please get in touch directly with Andy Medcalf

Our 2016-2017 season started with a win in the  club coxless 4 event at the British National Championships. This was very encouraging not only because we won but also because we were competitive with some crews from high performance programmes.

Our winter head race involvement included the Fours Head, Kingston Small Boats Head, Remenham Challenge, Quintin Head, Hammersmith Head and Kingston Head. We fielded 3 eights across the head season and our crews were always in the top few in their division ranging from senior to IM3. We won a number of pennants at the Kingston Small Boats Head and IM2 8s at the Kingston Head.

We held a successful training camp in Saarbrucken, Germany, where we made considerable strides towards the summer racing season. Over the summer regatta season we competed in coxless and coxed fours and eights across a range of categories. Results can be found below.

We pre-qualified two crews into Henley Royal Regatta. Our selected Britannia Cup 4+ drew the eventual winners from Oslo, in the first round, losing by half a length after a close and very hard race. Our Thames Cup 8+ had a convincing win against Molesey in the first round, leading from the first stroke. In the next round we lined up against the selected Thames B crew. Approaching Remenham Club we were one length down but fought back along the enclosures to lose by under 1/3L. Thames B went on to make the final. Based on the margin of our defeats both KRC crews were in the top few in each event.

We have a relatively young squad which continues to build and develop year on year. We pride ourselves on getting more speed out of rowers than others, through a well structured training programme and coaching efficient rowing technique. We are always looking for athletes who have big ambitions and the necessary commitment to help us achieve our goal of winning at Henley Royal Regatta.
